1. Introduction

Welcome to Duck Race ("we," "our," or "us"). We are committed to protecting your privacy and ensuring transparency about how we handle data. This Privacy Policy explains our practices regarding data collection, use, and storage when you use our duck race random name picker application.

2. Information We Collect

2.1 Information Stored Locally

Duck Race operates primarily using local browser storage. The following data is stored locally on your device:

  • Race Configurations: Race titles, participant names, race IDs, and timestamps you create
  • Game Settings: Your preferences for duck appearance, timers, and race configurations
  • Race Results: Historical race results and participant rankings

All this data is stored exclusively in your browser's localStorage and never leaves your device unless you explicitly use sharing features (coming soon).

2.2 Information We Do NOT Collect

We want to be clear about what we don't collect:

  • We do not require account creation or login
  • We do not collect personal identification information
  • We do not use cookies for tracking or analytics
  • We do not track your browsing behavior
  • We do not collect IP addresses or device identifiers
  • We do not share your data with third parties

2.3 Future Sharing Feature

We plan to introduce a sharing feature that will allow you to share race configurations or results with others. When implemented:

  • Sharing will be entirely optional and user-initiated
  • Only the specific race data you choose to share will be transmitted
  • You will have full control over what is shared and with whom
  • We will update this policy before implementing the sharing feature

3. How We Use Your Information

The data stored locally in your browser is used solely for:

  • Saving your race configurations for future use
  • Maintaining your game preferences and settings
  • Displaying race history and results
  • Providing a seamless user experience across sessions

Since all data remains on your device, we do not have access to it and cannot use it for any other purpose.

4. Data Storage and Security

4.1 Local Storage

All your race data is stored in your browser's localStorage. This means:

  • Data persists between browser sessions
  • Data is accessible only within the same browser on the same device
  • Clearing your browser data will delete all stored race configurations
  • We cannot recover data deleted from your browser

4.2 Shared Race Storage

When you use the sharing feature to share race configurations with others:

  • Shared race data is temporarily stored on our servers (Cloudflare KV)
  • Shared races are automatically deleted after 30 days
  • Your local race configurations are not affected by this deletion
  • Share links will expire and become inaccessible after 30 days
  • We do not have the ability to extend or recover expired shared races

4.3 Security Measures

While we use industry-standard security practices for our website infrastructure:

  • Our site is served over HTTPS to protect data in transit
  • localStorage data is subject to browser security policies
  • No server-side storage means no server-side data breach risk for local data
  • Shared race data is stored securely in Cloudflare's infrastructure

5. Your Rights and Choices

5.1 Data Control

You have complete control over your data:

  • Access: All your data is accessible through the race list in the sidebar
  • Modification: You can edit race titles and participant lists at any time
  • Deletion: You can delete individual races using the delete button, or clear all data by clearing your browser's localStorage
  • Export: You can copy or export race results for your records

7. Third-Party Services

Currently, Duck Race does not integrate with any third-party services, analytics platforms, or advertising networks. The application operates entirely within your browser without external dependencies that could track or collect your data.
